A high-level meeting was held by the central and state governments to provide permanent relief to the citizens of Lucknow from waterlogging. The roadmap, prepared under the chairmanship of Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, outlines several key measures to strengthen infrastructure in the city’s flood-prone areas.
Key Projects
The meeting decided to construct a 5.5-kilometer-long embankment on the left bank of the Gomti River from IIM Road to Pakka Pul (Harding Bridge). This embankment will control drainage and reduce the risk of flooding in the future.
Flood Pumping Stations and Drainage Network
To address the problem of obstructed drainage in the drains, 12 new flood pumping stations will be installed. Additionally, trunk drainage, sewage networks, and pumping stations with adequate capacity up to the final drainage points will be strengthened in the affected colonies.
Timely Development of Basic Amenities
Along with the construction of the embankment, the development of basic amenities such as roads, sewers, tap water to every household, and uninterrupted electricity will be accelerated in the affected areas. A plan was also announced to establish a new sub-station to upgrade the existing 33 kV sub-station to 132 kV.
