The ongoing special revision campaign to update the voter list in Uttar Pradesh has introduced several new initiatives. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that two special camps were held on October 17 and 24, where Block Level Officers (BLOs) assisted in adding and modifying names in the voter list. The main focus of this campaign is to simplify Form-6 to enable more people to register easily.

Key Features of the Campaign

The following major changes have been implemented under the special revision campaign:

  • Form-6 has been simplified – now only the Aadhaar card is accepted as proof of both date of birth and address.
  • BLOs were trained for the special camps to assist in updating the voter list at the local level.
  • Two large camps were organized on October 17 and 24, with active participation from BLOs across various districts.

Highlights

  • The campaign aims to add 20 million new voters, although this estimate has not yet been officially confirmed.
  • Navdeep Rinwa denied allegations of duplicate names made by Akhilesh Yadav, stating that the revision process identifies and corrects duplicate entries.
  • Accepting the Aadhaar card as proof of both date of birth and address has made the registration process faster and more accessible.

Response to Allegations of Duplicate Names

Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that special measures are being taken to identify and remove duplicate names from the voter list. He also clarified that accepting Aadhaar as dual proof in Form-6 will reduce the likelihood of duplicate entries.

Next Steps

Under the campaign, BLOs will continuously update the voter list at the local level and raise awareness among citizens to fill out Form-6. Citizens are advised to verify their date of birth and address with their Aadhaar card during this process.

Related Stories

Navdeep Rinwa stated that if any citizen does not find their name on the list, they can submit Form-6 at the nearest election office. The goal is to include the maximum number of eligible voters in the list for upcoming elections.
